Building Permit >

Building permits are required for the following:

  • Any type of new construction

  • Any structure that is 10’ – 0” X 10’ – 0” or larger

  • Any structure that will have a foundation regardless of size

  • Any structure that has a floor space of 120 sq. ft. or more

  • Any fence that has a vertical height of more than 36” regardless of material type

  • Any enlargement to an existing structure

  • If the structures square footage is increased regardless of use classification

  • If the structures original footprint on the lot changes or is increased

  • Any alterations made to a structure

  • Increase in the size or shape of any windows or doors

  • Changing of the type of material used to cover the exterior walls of a structure

  • Changing of the type of material used to cover the roof of a structure

  • Changing of the original layout or design to the interior of a structure and/or any portion thereof

  • Any repair made to a structure if the material used to make such a repair is different from the original material.

Note: some repairs may not require a permit, please contact the City Building Inspector for more information on this matter

  • Any structure that is being moved

  • The moving of a structure from one location on a lot to another location on the same lot.

  • The moving of a structure form one lot to another lot within the City limits

  • The moving of a structure form a location outside the City to a lot inside the City limits of Ripley

  • The demolition of any structure and/or any portion thereof.

  • Change of occupancy of any building or structure

  • The erection of any electrical service or temporary services

  • The installation of any electrical service for a structure, the equipment and/or materials related to the utilization of such service

  • The alteration of any existing electrical service, the equipment and/or the materials related to the utilization of such service

  • Any repair made to an electrical service, equipment and/or the materials related to the utilization of such service if the material and/or equipment used to make such repairs are different from the original material or equipment.

  • The movement of an existing electrical service, the equipment and/or materials related to the utilization of such service

  • The conversion of any equipment or materials utilized in the use of an electrical service.

  • The replacement of any equipment or materials utilized in the use of an electrical service if the equipment or materials are different from the original used.

  • The installation of any mechanical system as defined by the most recent version of the International Mechanical Code

  • Any alteration of any existing mechanical system or any portion thereof

  • Any repair made to a mechanical system or portion thereof related to the utilization of such mechanical system

  • The movement of an existing mechanical system or any portion thereof related to the utilization of such mechanical system

  • The conversion of any equipment or materials utilized in the use of a mechanical system

  • The replacement of any equipment or materials utilized in the use of a mechanical system if the equipment or materials are different from the original used

  • The installation of any plumbing system or portion thereof

  • Any alteration of any existing plumbing system or any portion thereof

  • Any repair made to a plumbing system or portion thereof related to the utilization of the plumbing system if the materials or equipment is different from the original

  • The movement of an existing plumbing system or any portion thereof

  • The conversion of any equipment or materials utilized in the use of a plumbing system

  • The replacement of any equipment or materials utilized in the use of a plumbing system if the equipment or materials are different from the original

  • The installation of any gas system

  • Any alteration of any existing gas system or any portion thereof

  • Any repair made to a gas system or portion thereof related to the utilization of such a gas system

  • The movement of an existing gas system or any portion thereof related to the utilization of such a gas system

  • The conversion of any equipment or materials utilized in the use of a gas system

  • The replacement of any equipment or materials utilized in the use of a gas system if the equipment or materials are different from the original used
